It is the time of year that most people dread, spring cleaning time. It is the time of year we not only go through the house cleaning everything, but we go through the house cleaning out everything. We get rid of the things we no longer want and no longer use. You can make money getting rid of these things if you do not just through them into the trash.
Many people just toss out the things that they no longer want or need. They do not think much of it. Doing this clears things out of their closets and their garages and they no longer have to think about it. If you take a little more time with it, you can make money off of the items you no longer want or need.
The first way you can do this is to have a garage sale. What is nice about this is you can determine the price of everything yourself. If someone does not want to pay that price you can work with them on a price that you can both agree with. This helps you to not only get rid of the items you no longer need or want, but it also helps you to make money at the same time. Some people do not like having to do this because it does take some time. You have to price everything, get everything set up, spend the time waiting for people to come buy stuff, and then take whatever does not sell down because often not everything people have out at a garage sale does sell.
Another way to go is to gather up your items and take them to a consignment shop. They will go through the items that you brought and determine what they feel they will be able to sell in their store and what they will not be able to sell. They will take what they feel they can sell, but they will price it themselves, and they get a percentage of it. They will then give you everything else back.
You can try selling some of your items on eBay. This too takes some time, you typically have to take some pictures and spend time listing the items. Typically you have to pay a listing fee to eBay to list your items on there and there is no guarantee that they will sell.
When all else fails you can donate your unwanted items. When you donate you usually get a receipt that you can use during tax time as a charitable donation deduction. This will help you either get a bigger return or help you to pay less to the IRS. So if you cannot sell all of your items remember there are people in need and you can always donate.
When it is time for you to start your spring cleaning always keep in mind that there is money to be made on the items you no longer want or need. There may be someone out there who would like those items. You have probably heard the expression one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. So before you go throwing away something, think about whether you can sell it or donate it.
