Gas Prices Are Just Going Up, But You Can Still Save Money At The Pump

Every time that you stop to full up your vehicle you are reminded of how high the gas prices have gotten. Have you ever wondered though, why the prices keep going up and why more and more of your paycheck has to go to putting gas in your vehicle? It can be frustrating to know that there is nothing that you can do about the prices. However you should be glad to know that there are some things that you can do to get better gas mileage out of your vehicle.

Right now there is a record high demand in the world market for crude oil. There are a lot of strikes going on in Libya right now, and there is civil unrest in Egypt. Both of these countries are major exporters and players in the crude oil world market. With these things going on it makes it much harder for things to flow smoothly from once place to another.

With all of this pressure that is being put on the world’s supply and demand it is no wonder prices are being driven up. There is a lot of uncertainty in the market right now. For example there are a lot of unknowns still to come such as hurricane season. The weather does have an effect on the oil market, which can drive the price of gas up.

There are things that the government could do to help lower the cost of gas, if they were to do them. There is a bigger picture that the government is not really looking at. If they can find a way for the United States to produce more gas and find a way for us to consumer less, the cost of gas would drop quite a bit. The government could also partner with Canada and build the pipeline to bring 800,000 barrels of oil every day. With that much coming to us every day the price of gas would really come down.

There are also plenty of things that the consumer can do themselves to get the most for their money. Start by making sure that your tires are properly inflated, improperly inflated tires will cause your gas mileage to go down; it can actually save you about one mile per gallon. Do not tailgate people, if you maintain a proper distance so you are not doing a lot of quick starts and stops you can save up to two miles per gallon. It is very important to make sure that your engine is properly tuned; if it is and stays properly tuned you can save up to 2 miles per gallon. Finally do the best that you can to not use you’re A/C. It may sound hard to do in the summer time, but doing so can save you up to two miles a gallon. If you do all of this things you could save up to seven miles a gallon, this really adds up at the pump.

While more and more Americans are buying more fuel efficient cars, America is still the biggest consumer of oil in the world. This being so, we need to find ways to lower the price so that we the people do not go bankrupt trying to fill our tank. There are some things that we the consumers can do on a small scale, but for us to save on a large scale the government needs to step in. Only time will tell if they will step in and help us out, causing the price of gas to go down, but we can all be hopeful together.
